God of a Second Chance Pt. 3

Have you ever been afraid of something God has asked you to and run away?

"Is there any place I can go to avoid your Spirit? to be out of your sight? If I climb to the sky, you’re there! If I go underground, you’re there! If I flew on morning’s wings to the far western horizon, You’d find me in a minute— you’re already there waiting!” (Psa. 139:7–10 MESSAGE)

Noah tried to run away, from preaching to people he didn’t like, he was thrown overboard during a storm, and was swallowed by a great fish.  After being partially digested He prays:

Jonah 2:1 Then Jonah prayed to his God from the belly of the fish. I called out to the LORD, out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol(Hell) I cried, and you heard my voice. For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your waves and your billows passed over me.

Then I said, ‘I am driven away from your sight; yet I shall again look upon your holy temple. waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped about my head.  When my life was fainting away, I remembered the LORD, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple. But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation Ye’su’uah belongs to the LORD!”” (Jonah 2:2–9 ESV)

  • Don’t wait for a fish to swallow you before you say yes to the Lord!

“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.”” (Heb. 12:5–6 ESV)

God doesn’t punish us when we run. He allows us to run right into the discipline we need to draw us back into his presence.

  • Be quick to ask for forgiveness and run into His presence!

“GOD spoke to Jonah a second time: “Up on your feet and on your way to the big city of Nineveh! Preach to them. They’re in a bad way and I can’t ignore it any longer.”  This time Jonah started off straight for Nineveh, obeying GOD’S orders to the letter.” (Jonah 3:1–3 MESSAGE)

  • Step towards the impossible thing God is asking you to do.

Jonah ran from God’s call because He wasn’t feeling it.  He grew up hearing stories about how wicked the people of Nineveh were.  He didn’t want them to repent and be forgiven.

Do you have people you don't like? Maybe political opposites of you?

Relatives that keep driving you crazy.

Or maybe, you’re afraid of the risk?

“As long as you go back to what is safe you will never grow.   You will never run into your miracle until you embrace the art of not knowing.” TD Jakes

  • Embrace the art of not knowing by stepping out in faith towards the miracle you need!

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Heb. 11:1 ESV)

Prayer:  Father, forgive me from trying to run away from your presence and the impossible things you have called me to do.  I can’t do anything without you Father.  Jesus, give me your courage today, to step into the things that are not possible without you.  Here I am again.  Send me!
