Face-To-Face Time With God

Face to Face time with God will not only change your story, but it will also will influence your children stories too!

What is the first thing you do every day to prepare your heart to face a new day? It is easy for all of us to start our days, with the same stress and problems we had the day before.

Did you know that God has made a way for you and me to start fresh every day?

The bible says, “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lam. 3:22–23 ESV)

Some of the greatest men who ever lived learned to bring their souls first to God, so they could be filled with His presence, power and love to live out the dream they had been made to do.  Moses told the Lord that He would go anywhere if God’s presence went with him.  Moses learned how the power and grace of God enabled Moses to do things, that were impossible to do.

The bible says, “the LORD used to speak to Moses’ face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.” (Ex. 33:11 ESV)

When Jesus showed up in the world, he often slips away from his disciples, “rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark,” (Mark 1:35), to spend time alone with His Father and pray.

Making time every day to have face-to-face time with God, will not only transform your life, but it can also transform your kids.  Something happens inside of you as a man when you give the very beginning of your day to spending time with God.  Spending time with God fills your heart with His presence,  centers your heart to worship and pray, and opens your ears to hear His voice.

Jesus spent time with His Father early in the morning, because he knew he could only do what He saw His Father doing, and could only speak those things He heard His Father speaking.  Jesus needed time every day with His Father, to love His Father with all of His heart, mind, soul, and spirit. Jesus not only came to die on the cross in our place so we could receive God’s mercy and be forgiven.  He also came to teach us how to live our lives with the Father like a son. Like He did!  He came to teach us how to hear His Father’s voice so He would know how to follow Him.  He came to teach us His word, so we could learn to hear His voice to follow His Father and do the things He was doing. In our workplace, our families, and our neighborhoods.

God the Father has a dreamed stored in His heart for your beloved, and your family.  We will not fully realize it unless we learn to make space in our life, to have our own face-to-face time with our Father, who art in heaven.

Could it be that Jesus is using the ‘Covid19 Fear Pandemic’, seems to be more about the fear of getting the virus, than those getting sick? To give us some margin in our lives, o spend time every day in face-to-face time with God?

There is another benefit to you that can happen in your times with God. Your time with God will impact your children. Many years ago, my oldest son Edward who was just turning three years old, knocked on my door during one of my early quiet times with God and asked, “what are you doing, dad? I replied, “I'm spending time with God.” He paused for a moment and then asked,  “can I spend time with God and you too?” His question filled my heart with joy that my young son wanted to come to my studio to spend time with God and me.

I grabbed one of my bibles and handed it to him, although it was upside down.  He didn’t notice, because he wasn’t reading yet. Well, there were also no pictures for him to know which way is right-side up. He sat across the room in a chair I set up for him; I hadn’t noticed how intently he was watching my every move.  I opened my bible, and I saw he did the same thing. I started reading the words of scripture over myself, and using my index finger, back and forth across the page, under the words I was reading.

I looked up at Edward, and he was still holding his bible upside down, moving his lips like I was and underlining the words with his finger too.  It overwhelmed my heart with joy, watching my youngest son, following me, and doing what I was doing.  You have probably heard that "more is caught than taught.”  My young son was following me during my quiet time, and that brought incredible joy to me as a dad. Because I knew that Edward had just caught something I did that could shape his future life, and the life of my grandkids one day.

Jesus said, “For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel.” (John 5:20 ESV)

My time with the Father and son every day, has not only changed me as a man, husband, and father, it has also changed my children. I had no idea how powerful it is to model the life you want them to live. You can preach amazing sermons to your family about how important it is for them to spend time with God and connect every day.  But nothing comes close to them looking at the things you do.  Your time with God can change the future stories of your children through the way you seek the Lord and model to them how they can spend time with God too!

One of my favorite things with my grown children is hearing from them the things God is speaking and leading them to do. It is medicine to the soul of a father to know that he got to help teach his children how they could spend time with God too.

Father, bless my friend today, as they come before you to follow you and hear your voice. Fill them again with your steadfast love and mercy. Make them hungry for more of you, so their children are hungry too.  Use this time In Jesus’ name.

Praying for you
