The Shepherd's Voice

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand."
John 10:27-28 (ESV)
What is the driving voice behind your life and career?
Maybe you hear the supportive voice of a family member, telling you that you will do great things. Or maybe you hear the critical words of a broken father who told you that you’d never amount to anything. Whatever voice you are listening to will determine the amount of grace you have to do what the Father has called you to do.
You could be in the wrong position in the workplace or in life because you followed somebody else’s voice for your life and not the Father’s. I used to see that in the NFL all the time. There were players who spent their entire college careers trying to become something they thought they were supposed to be, only to arrive and become totally frustrated at never getting to the sweet spot. That is the place of being connected to who you are and the gifts you have with the current season and purpose that you’re in. No matter how much money you earn, no matter how many accolades you receive, you will never feel like you have arrived. You’re constantly pushing, manipulating, pressing—so you can come out a winner.
What if there’s another way to do life? What if instead of pushing a rock uphill we lived from a place of blessing and freedom? It’s time to stop thinking, “If I just try harder, I’ll make it!”
Beloved, there’s a better way and it’s the way Jesus came to bring to us, the way of the smile of the Father. It’s knowing the Shepherd’s voice so that when He calls, we can follow. It’s the peace that comes from knowing that Jesus laid His life down so that we could be with the Father for eternity. Do you know what that voice sounds like? It is the same voice that Jesus listened for every day.
The voice of the Father.
Let's pray:
Father, thank-You for sending Your Son Jesus to show me what true sonship looks like. He had such a peace that carried Him through all of the trials and suffering. He was so connected to Your voice and the purpose behind His life here on earth that He spoke with confidence and power and lived the most influential life anyone has ever had on earth. I want to walk in that same sweet spot and live my life for You. I humble myself before You as my Shepherd and ask You to speak to me today. In Jesus’ name, amen. (Make time today in silence listening for the Father’s voice).
