MEN: What To Do When You've Messed Up

This week, I’ve got a special message for all the dads who feel they’ve blown it as a husband and a father.

Let’s be honest—relationships are hard. The problem is, most of us, when faced with conflict want to run away. We head out to that vintage car in the garage, or that project or that overtime work that we don’t really need. Do you know what makes us do that? It’s shame. Shame is the number 1 tool of the devil to get you to run away from God just like Adam and Eve did.

Beloved. God wants to set you free from that shame. “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:1)

The Father wants to give you a fresh start, but it’s going to take some work and some endurance. We can’t keep running away from our difficult relationships and expect them to change. They won’t.

Here’s how we’re going to start:

  1. Start by running TO God’s Presence. It’s God the Father who’s going to enable you to be the man, husband and father that you need to be and more importantly, that you want to be!

  2. Step back from trying to fix the problem and start surrendering to God. Surrender, pray and worship. Set aside some time to do this daily and to talk to God about the problems you see and the hurts you’ve experienced in your difficult relationships.

  3. Take action! Once you’ve spent a significant amount of time with the Father, it’s time to take action! Step towards that thing that you need to be or that you need to do. God is with you!
