HE IS RISEN! HAPPY EASTER!
It’s Easter! I love celebrating Easter and all the events leading up to Sunday morning. Maybe you’ve been celebrating Lent—the 40 days prior to Easter where believers connect to the sacrifice that Jesus made for us by sacrificing something themselves for 40 days? Or perhaps you celebrated Palm Sunday last week—the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem seated on a donkey’s colt? No matter if you’ve participated in these events or not, the most important ones are coming up this week—Good Friday—the day where we remember Jesus’ death on the cross, and Easter Sunday—the day where we celebrate His resurrection.
Today, I want to encourage you to prepare your heart and mind as we think about Jesus’ final week on earth.
The bible says that Jesus endured the cross, despising the shame of the cross FOR THE JOY that was set before Him. What was that joy? That joy was you and me Beloved. You and me together with Him and His Father in the heavenly home He has prepared for you. His JOY was you and me in our rightful place as heirs together with Him of His Father’s glorious riches. Jesus wanted that for you so badly that He was willing to endure the pain and the shame of the cross—a death intended only for the worst criminals—in order for you to be with Him. He Father loves you so much that He was willing to be separated from His one and only Son for a moment as His Son bore the sins of the whole world.
And then, quite miraculously—after the shock of His death on Friday, and the heaviness of His absence on Saturday—the loss of their hopes and dreams—the disciples saw what they didn’t dare imagine was possible. An empty tomb. A risen Savior. The resurrection of Jesus.
Ephesians 2:4-7 says that we have also been “made alive in Christ”. 2 Timothy 2:11 says that “if we have died with him, we will also live with him”. Beloved, Christ died so that you might live. Let’s receive that free gift and honor Jesus’ sacrifice by dying with Him and living with Him.
